Start with your firm's actual bottleneck, not a feature checklist. If your team spends most of its time on manual data entry and GST reconciliation, an automation-first tool built for that specific problem will save more time than a broader compliance-calendar system. If clients constantly call for status updates, a client-facing portal matters more than internal reporting depth.
If your firm already runs on a specific ecosystem — Zoho Books for accounting, Tally for bookkeeping — factor in the switching cost of moving away from that versus the integration benefit of staying within it. A standalone tool avoids lock-in but means one more system to log into.
